Threaded rod anchor to steel beam

Threaded rod anchor to steel beam

Threaded rod anchor to steel beam

(OP)
I have a second floor shear wall supported by a steel W-BM. Need to anchor the ends of the wall for uplift. Using a holddown and threaded rod, but will need to connect the threaded rod directly to the top flange of the steel beam. I have found connectors that will weld to a steel member and connect to a rebar, but cannot find this same type of connector for a threaded rod. I did find one that had a threaded end to a rebar. Does anyone know of a good connector for this case? Thanks and have a great day.

RE: Threaded rod anchor to steel beam

Why not just weld the threaded rod directly to the I-beam? That's what we typically do.

Full thread and partial thread studs are available for your application....

Braves25:
What about drilling a hole in the flange of the WF, and using a couple washers and 3 or 4 nuts so you can lock the rod to the WF? What prevents the WF beam from lifting due to this upward force, if and when it occurs?

This is what we also typically do.

My technical language minding mentor notes them as "threaded stud bolts" on drawings.

Done that for years too... Decades in fact.

I remember the last time I had that problem I welded a nut to the top of the beam and then screwed in threaded rod. That way the load remained concentric (relative to the beam & wall).
