avarage stress?

(OP)
I need to know how can i calculate the average stress for all elements in a column. you know every element has its own stress.

RE: avarage stress?

I think that the only way you'll be able to do this is by writing a script to go through and calculate the average.

RE: avarage stress?

if u are solving 3D problem, ur elements must be brick elements, wherein 8 nodal stresses will be present. I also tried searching for some numerical method to find out the average stress in an element, But finally nothing i could do. So what i did, i reduced elemental size, and take the stresses at the centroidal location of the element. I hope this can give closer results for an element, that u can expect from averaging methods.
