Circular rod with square bore

Circular rod with square bore

As part of a shaft design I am working on, there are a few shaft collars that have a square bore to fit on a square shaft. I was wondering if these types of collars/sleeves are relatively common and could be found from a supplier. I have seen these very commonly in the past and it doesn't seem like these are just machined at a low production level.

I have seen hese but this type of collar is not what I am looking for. The ones we have now are virtually a solid metal rod with a square bore. I am hoping to replicate this type of collar but on a larger scale.

Is this what you were looking for...

...if so, go to...

...and check out the items labeled 'Sleeves, Square Holes'.

thats exactky it. thank you.

RE: Circular rod with square bore

Wow,
You really can fit a square hole into a round peg.

(sorry, couldn't help it)

There better not be any loads or stresses on those collars, particularly torsional loading at the four reentrant corners which have essentially zero material thickness, btwn. the inside corner and the OD. I would even be concerned about varying bearing or compressive loadings during rotation and fatigue at those inside corners. What does this collar really do on your shaft?

Yeah I noiced that too. I am going to try to get a custom size where there is sufficient material in between. As for the application of it it is basically being treated as a bearing for a lead screw and gear. The square shaft becomes locked and the gears and lead screw rotate around these sleeves. Our current apparatus has the same size as what is shown in the picture and do not seem to have any type of wear or fatigue to it so I am not as much concerned, especially if I can get the custom sizing.
