(global) meshing an assembly of different parts

(OP)
Hello all, first time posting.

I am currently modeling a 3-d composite structure, and have assembled 3 different parts into one. although the parts are of different materials, I would like to mesh it as one whole assembly. However, it gives me an error stating that it needs to be meshed as a part, and more over, they don't allow it to mesh together to begin with. Is there any way to get this working? If possible, a detailed advice or solution will be helpful, as I am not the biggest expert with abaqus.

Thanks in advance for the help.
