Impact test of saddle and wear plate

Impact test of saddle and wear plate

(OP)
Dear all
we are designing a vessel which is required to due impact test , normalized, and grain refinement, i wonder if we should do the same exercise for the saddle and wear plate.

RE: Impact test of saddle and wear plate

Typically, the wear plate has to be impact tested as the shell material. The good engineering practice would allow you to consider a heat transfer between the wear plate and the saddle. If the temperature of the saddle weld junction require impact test for the saddle, then you have include the saddle also. Remember, the WPS and PQR have to include the impact testing of the joint too.
