B31.3 Charpy Impact Requirements for PQR

(OP)
My question is in regards to Charpy impact requirements for WPS qualifications to be used with a system being built to B31.3, designated as high pressure. The SMAW process will be used for all procedures using two filler metals. Table K323.3.1 of B31.3 states that “impact specimens shall be made for each welding procedure, type of electrode, or filler metal (i.e., AWS E-XXXX classification) and each flux to be used.”

I interpret it to say that specimens shall be made for each filler metal. So, two sets of specimens would be required for a weld containing E7010 and E7018. The lab is telling me only one set is required for the weld.

How many sets of specimens would be required?

Thank you

RE: B31.3 Charpy Impact Requirements for PQR

you are correct. E7010 and E7018 are two different types of electrodes and therefore would both need separate Impact values.
