HIC in equipment operating above 60 degC

HIC in equipment operating above 60 degC

Hello all,

I have come across a statement regarding HIC in a material selection report for CO2/H2S wet sour service application. The statement reads 'equipment operating above 60 degC is not prone to HIC'. Is this indeed correct? If so, can anyone provide a technical reasoning?

Many thanks,
midris

RE: HIC in equipment operating above 60 degC

Consult NACE Technical Committee Report 8X194 and API RP 581, and see if they concur with the statement in question.

It is incorrect if it refers to NACE MR0175.

Appreciate your feedback.

I consulted NACE Technical Committee Report 8X194, which states that the intent of the report is to minimize susceptibility of carbon steel to various forms of corrosion (including HIC) under sour service and within a temperature range of 0-150 degC.

This renders the statement I came across false.

Thanks,
midris
