Curious here, how prevalent are positive ground diesel engine controllers?

Curious here, how prevalent are positive ground diesel engine controllers?

(OP)
Or to be more accurate did I screw up?

The original diesel engine fire pump and controller was installed 42 or 43 years ago and a couple months ago we got the order to replace it.

I copied everything down I could find on the controller, serial, model numbers and such, and ordered a new one.

Got it installed, it wouldn't work and someone finally noticed the battery wiring and turns out the old controller was a positive ground. Egg on my face, some really unhappy people with yours truly.

Taking a closer look we found a note as to positive grounding on the inside of the door a wiring diagram that took real effort to read after 43 years. I never thought to look there. My bad.

I never saw a positive ground controller before and calling Firetrol they said they stopped making them years ago.

So my question to you is how often do you run into a positive ground controller? 30%. 10%, 2% of the time or are you like me and never saw one before?
