We are using E NicrFe-9 (Weld Metal)  electrodes for 9% Nickel plate (Base Metal) welding. Weld metal is having approximately 70% Nickel. The joint is welded from both sides. Is there is  any necessary to provide backing strip during radiography to avoid density difference between the Weld metal and Base metal?

RE: 9 % Nickel Welding - Radiography.

It has been a long time since I was involved with this. So, don't take this as expert advice.

I don't think we used a back-up during our X-ray on some 9% nickel cryo tanks.  However, one test shot should be all that is necessary to determine if this will be the case.
