Enclosed staircase in steel billet casting plant area

Hello Everyone,

As part of code compliance, Is it really required to enclose staircases to be used for accessing control room, walking platform for furnace area, rooms like electrical room etc. alternating tread devices could be used which is applicable to machinery area not having occupant load in excess of three.

Could any one please help me to give NFPA code provision which could allow me to leave those staricases open.

Regards,

Prakash Ahir

Look for the equipment platform provisions in NFPA 101.
