REMOTE ACCESS

REMOTE ACCESS

REMOTE ACCESS

(OP)
Hi,

I work in Northern Ireland and I'm moving to Manchester and my company are going to keep me on as a designer. I will need to use solid edge and access the drawings from team center in Manchester. I was hoping that people could provide me with some solutions to access the server remotely for best performance?

I have tried Microsoft remote desktop but every time I open a model assembly in the model it crashes the connection. It is also very laggy, is there anyway to use solid edge on my computer in Manchester and upload and download the drawings to team center?

Thanks

RE: REMOTE ACCESS

HP workstations ship with a product called RGS which is like RD but works so much better with graphic intense applications like Solid Edge. You set up the sender on the workstation (has to be an HP Workstation Z series desktop or Elitebook laptop) and then the receiver can be installed on any PC. Aside from that, you are probably looking at having to have a Citrix server set up...

How does a Citrix server set up work? Is it the same as remote desk top or RGS?

What are the best ways to turn down the graphics in solid edge so as its not as hard on the network?

Thanks

RE: REMOTE ACCESS

Doesn’t help you immediately but with ST6 MP2 there will be new functionality with SEEC to allow you to work with exported TC managed files in an unmanaged mode and then import the modified SE unmanaged files back into TC.

Until then, attempting to work remotely with TC and SE without dedicated hardware (such as the HP solution mentioned by Ken) will just be extremely painful, more time consuming, and honestly more frustrating than any effort is really worth. Sorry I don’t have better news for you but that is the reality of the situation.

Well I will try and get the company to invest in an HP desktop in the mean time.

I think we are moving to ST6 at the end of the year so hopefully the team center option will work. Do you know were you read up about ST6 new functionality so as I can read up about it?

Thanks
Stewart
