CFRP on RC Column Strengthening
CFRP on RC Column Strengthening
(OP)
I have a problem with the construction of an SBR Tank because during construction, the constructed column has been misaligned and slightly inclined so the loads became eccentric thus increasing the moment. Upon checking, the column is now failing.
My question is, what methods can we use to compensate the deficiency in the moment capacity of the column? We are thinking of the use of CFRP but are there new references regarding the use of CFRP in increasing the flexural capacity? Thanks!

RE: CFRP on RC Column Strengthening
I met with an Engineer from an FRP company recently and they are very willing to provide guidance if you ask them. The way he explained it to me is that you can design the repair yourself but typically Engineers who are not familiar with the design procedures (and the practical application) tend to overdesign and provide designs which are not efficient. It might be worth a phone call.
