Create flat pattern of revolved feature (NX 7.5)

Create flat pattern of revolved feature (NX 7.5)

Hello all,

I'm trying to create a flat pattern of the part in the attached image. I initially tried creating the part as a simple revolve, converting to sheet metal, and applying the flat pattern command which didn't work. I then tried creating the part as a swept feature, thinking that perhaps the flat pattern command didn't like something about the revolve; this also failed.

I've poked around a bit on the forums and found some things pertaining to flattening cones using lofted bends, however since my application curves slightly along the length of the bend a liner loft doesn't seem to be the right choice for this case.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to re-model this part such that it converts successfully to a flat pattern?

RE: Create flat pattern of revolved feature (NX 7.5)

This is something that will need something like the 'Metaform' tool provided for in the Advanced Sheet Metal and/or the Aerospace Sheet Metal modules.

Thanks for the response, John! Guess I'll have to try sketching this one by hand then.
