SUB'D in UG NX???

SUB'D in UG NX???

SUB'D in UG NX???

Does UG have the sub'd functionality such as the T-Splines plug in or Freestyle in Creo or Catia?

RE: SUB'D in UG NX???

We will be demonstrating so-called 'Sub-D' modeling (we're working on coming up with a different name) during the NX 9.0 roll-out but it won't be available for production use until NX 9.0.1.x.

Creo calls it freestyle

I forget what Catia calls it???

Maya calls it Sub'D

Inventor purchased the T-Splines

The programmer speak is Sub Divisional Surfaces

how about calling it SDS or FOAM < and coming up with a killer acronym for FOAM

Form Outer Area Manipulation
or
From Outer Astro Modeling
or

okay I need more coffee ;)

Don't forget to add the Crease tools so we can generate draft angles

RE: SUB'D in UG NX???

Hi John,

I would like to know if the 'Sub-D' modeling will be available in modeling or in shape studio ?

Thanks in advance

RE: SUB'D in UG NX???

It will be it's own license, but the only prerequisite will be Modeling, however, the icon will be on the Surfacing 'Tab' (of course, you will be able to use Customize to move it to wherever it makes the most sense for you). Since it won't be officially available until after the first of the year, when NX 9.0.1.x is released, we have not yet decided which, if any, of the existing bundles it might be added to, but for now it should be considered as an incremental add-on.

RE: SUB'D in UG NX???

Wow, tSplines is the only reason I still use my seat of Rhino. New UI, improved image handling and now this - I for one am really looking forward to NX9.

RE: SUB'D in UG NX???

...if you don't mind paying extra for the T-splines in NX (is how I read John's reply above).

RE: SUB'D in UG NX???

I paid extra for tSplines in Rhino but it was reasonably priced at $649, Power surfacing for solidworks is $1495, imagine and shape in Catia attracts a hefty price tag and freestyle is included with Creo - so I guess it depends on the price point siemens settle upon.
