Floor Vibration on Corridor Bridge

Floor Vibration on Corridor Bridge

Floor Vibration on Corridor Bridge

(OP)
I am designing a simple-span interior bridge, spanning some 45ft, 8ft wide, second floor corridor loading (80psf LL).

I know of ASIC Design Guide No11 - Floor vibrations due to Human Activity; but I have never really looked too in depth through it. I was wondering if anybody had any experience with similar designs and if a the frequency of occupants is even an issue to really warrant a close examination, or would some quick numerical natural frequency clacs be sufficient in your opinions?

Thank you,

RE: Floor Vibration on Corridor Bridge

I had a vibration problem with an indoor bridge that had a very shallow depth section.

another solution you can go for span/1000 but according to AASHTO that does not guarantee to exclude the Sick Feeling that could occur to the pedestrians

Another easy accurate solution is: get your frequency from the FEA and compare it with the values given in" NCHRP 20-07 TASK 244
LRFD GUIDE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE DESIGN OF PEDESTRIAN BRIDGES FINAL DRAFT" .it is a free downloadable

RE: Floor Vibration on Corridor Bridge

I'd say it requires close examination. Vibrations and frequency are often the governing constraint on member span. For instance, the size of precast concrete members that serve interior areas is largely driven by vibration considerations.
