Corrosion Weld Overlay

Corrosion Weld Overlay

Corrosion Weld Overlay

(OP)
I have a client that has requested my company to conduct weld repairs to one of their pressure vessels. The repairs consist of applying a layer of I625 over existing 410S clad plate using Auto GMAW + Pulse they have instructed us not to remove the existing clad. Has anyone have any experience in this type of repair as it is not an industry standard & I have some concerns regarding final weld condition.

RE: Corrosion Weld Overlay

This is an odd weld repair. The 410S is a non-hardenable ferritic stainless steel material. Applying 625 over the clad 410S material should not pose a problem from a welding standpoint. However, I would ask why the 625 is being used as a corrosion resistant weld overlay over the original 410S cladding. Also, the minimum thickness of the 625 needs to be determined to ensure proper corrosion resistance from dilution.
