Abaqus - Add a shell layer in mesh

Abaqus - Add a shell layer in mesh

(OP)
Hi,

I am new to abaqus,
I created two different parts and merge them together (one inside another) to mesh them as a whole.
Now, I want to add another meshed layer to surround the inner object (basically creating a layer cover the contacting surface between the two merged objects), however, when I selected 'Edit mesh' - 'mesh' - 'offset(create shell layer)', I can only select the surface from the outer object (even after I hide the outer part). So I defined the surface of the inner object, but it cannot be recognized/found in the surface selection part for 'offset(create shell layer)' (i.e. the surface I defined is not in the eligible regions, is that because it hasn't been meshed? but I thought it is gonna be meshed with the inner object...)

Hope I explain the problem clearly...

Many thanks in advance
