ASME Y14.5.1M : Stabilization process for dummies.

ASME Y14.5.1M : Stabilization process for dummies.

Hi,

I am studying to pass my ASME Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Professional technical level certification. I am reading in asme y14.5-2009 (yeah I know it's not the version of the test, I just find the explanations better in than the 1994 version), and as I am reading the paragraph 4.11.2, they talk about part stabilization. In short it says if the part rocks, stabilize it per asme y14.5.1m. It looks like a paragraph written by ASME marketing department in order to sell more standards wink

Can I have a very quick summary of the procedure? I mean a few sentences, so I can have a general understanding of the steps involved in this case.

Thank you in advance for your help.

RE: ASME Y14.5.1M : Stabilization process for dummies.

If you take the test in the near future, you won't have to worry about that item, because the 1994 standard didn't make that reference to Y14.5.1. Instead, it said that the part can simply be rocked to the "optimum" position (see paragraph 4.5.1 from 1994). I always pictured the inspection guys winking to each other about that statement, but I guess it did accurately reflect what happens in assembly.

Sorry that I'm not answering your question :) But just thought I'd throw that in.
