Smoke Management System

Smoke Management System

(OP)
Hi,
first of all I want to say that I'm new for this forum.
I'm designing a smoke management system. I have a problem in the selection of Fans for Smoke and Heat Exhaust System, is there a limitation in maximum sound level (dB - limit)? My idea is we do not need to consider about the sound level because the location where the smoke exhaust fans are installed is roof top and it is not in the evacuation path. please help me...

RE: Smoke Management System

welcome to the forum....

this depends on if the owner/JHA or common sense determine that sound is important.
Normally during a fire the fan noise is peoples least concern. But they also may run the fans for frequent testing and then noise can be an issue.

On a rooftop it may not be a problem, unless you have neighboring buidlings that are higher.

how noisy is the area, how noisy will the fans be, how often will they run, what is nearby that can hear the fans (top floor tenant etc.)

RE: Smoke Management System

JHA = AHJ, Authority Having Jurisdiction. Absolutely no sound criteria. It can sound like a buzzsaw if it only comes on during a life safety event or once-a-month testing. If the AHJ doesn't agree, pls. have them talk with me...

haha
