External Involute Spline MOP Question

External Involute Spline MOP Question

External Involute Spline MOP Question

(OP)
Hello All,

I am trying to decide the best alternative for inspecting the tooth thickness of an external involute spline. Basically I have a spline and it's equivalent GO gage. I am trying to find the best alternative to inspect the spline without the matching NOGO gage. This is where the MOP (MOW) comes in. Based on my understanding the minimum MOP is a calculated value that is a reference for what the NOGO would be checking. I would like to use the MOP as an alternative to using the NOGO to check the spline, but seeing as the MOP checks only one spot it would make sense that doing the MOP in more than one spot is more beneficial to finding a bad part. Is this a valid alternaitve to the NOGO gage? I am looking for an experts opinion as to how many locations of MOP should be checked to get the best results without having to measure every iteration around the part.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Good Luck

if it can be built it can be calculated.
if it can be calculated it can be built.

RE: External Involute Spline MOP Question

You can have accurate mop and/or mow readinga and yet have the wrong involute form, major and minor diameters.

he has a go gage. that would be sufficient to verify the correct profile, lead, total index error.
