I have an assembly that only has one configuration and about 30 items. Every time I generate a BOM, it leaves out one item. If I then add a balloon that calls out its Part Number, its given part number is "*". If I change the property to Item quantity, it shows "-1". The item is not a part of a subassy and does not have other configurations. I've refreshed, rebooted, restarted and nothing changes. Any ideas?

RE: Item missing from BOM. Labeled as negative quantity

Check component properties. Is the "Exclude from Bill of Materials" button selected?

Yeah, I figured it out. Half the time in Solidworks a weird issue can be solved just by right-clicking on the problem and actually reading what options there are. The option "Include in BOM" seemed to be a good fit for solving my problem.
