Profilograph testing for bituminous ride quality

Profilograph testing for bituminous ride quality

Profilograph testing for bituminous ride quality

(OP)
What is the average cost per day to run a profilograph measuring device?
One is needed for a mill and overlay project. The profilograph testing will be needed at the end of each working shift to measure the ride quality of the paving placed on that particular day prior to opening back up to traffic. The actual test should not take more than an hour.

RE: Profilograph testing for bituminous ride quality

Our local DOT adds this requirement into the paving specification. In our case, the contractor provides the profilograph machine, but the agency doing the inspection provides the labor, records and interprets the data. Roue166's link should get you a cost of rental of the unit, but I would also factor in the field time you mention and some additional office time for interpretation. I did this 20 years ago with a manual paper recorder. The new digital equipment should make for an easier review but still takes some time. I had to push the 25' a-frame unit down each wheel lane of the mat, four passes for 24' wide interstate concrete paving. Turning it around by myself was a real bear.

Given the limited lane closures with moving paving operations in our state, one would likely have to do this under traffic with an escort vehicle.
