Rerating of Process Equipment

Rerating of Process Equipment

Rerating of Process Equipment

(OP)
Does anyone know of any magazines and/or periodicals that deal with re-rating of process equipment (i.e. pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping, flanges etc.)?

RE: Rerating of Process Equipment

Hello,

There are at least two magazines that you should read every month.  Hydrocarbon Processing (Gulf Publishing):

http://www.hydrocarbonprocessing.com/contents/publications/hp/

and Chemical Engineering:

http://www.che.com/

Through MANY years (I am an olde guy) I have found these two magazines to always be worth reading.  Look for the back issues.  I think you can get a list of articles in an annual index from each publication.

Everbody has their favorites so I hope we get more opinions.

Regards, John.

RE: Rerating of Process Equipment

Rerating of pressure vessels requires a fairly standard set of questions be answered:
what are the materials?
what are the allowable stresses?
what condition is the vessel in?
what damage mechanisms threaten its integrity and are they in effect?
what testing or inspection methods apply and will convince the jurisdiction that rerating is permissable.

The API 579 Fitness for Service assessment technology is a good starting point.
