Cladding modelling

Cladding modelling

Cladding modelling

(OP)
I m doing a project on tall buildings.. In which i have to model cladding units and apply wind loads on area objects.
So please help me with how to attatch cladding units to primary structure and stimulate the connection behavior of cladding to the primary structure so dat there is a load transfer mechanism between cladding n primary structure...

N also please help me with wat kind of properties should i assign to cladds... I am using glass as cladding material... Shoul i assign it with membrane, shell or plate properties

RE: Cladding modelling

Why don't you just apply the wind loads as line loads at the edge of the floor slabs? You would need less modeling work and get a smaller and faster FEM model.

@Avscorreia: I am doing a project on "Drift control in tall building using claddin". So i have to model claddings and there connection behavior for my project... I have modelled cladding as area element and have drawn in elevation.. But the doubt is how to change its connectivity to stimulate its interaction...

RE: Cladding modelling

I am no specifically familiar with etabs, but in general you may need a link element thats a beam element to attach to your structure to limit unwanted interaction. If you can release an edge from axial load, you would have to do that for your shells so they don't take the load from the spandrel beams if they are modeled floor to floor with no link.
