Creating Points

Creating Points

(OP)
Hi,

could somebody please tell me how I could create points at the intersection of a datum plane and a curve??

RE: Creating Points

Insert - Datum/Point - Point. Choose type intersection point. Select the datum plane, then select curve, Apply or OK.

Best regards,

Michaël.

RE: Creating Points

If you want to get all of the intersection points at once, you can use Insert>Curve from Bodies>Section, select the curve as the object to section and then your datum plane. This will put a point at every place the curve passes through the plane.

Does anyone know how to obtain the co-ordinates of a "point" with respect to a "datum-coordinate system"?
I'm using NX7.5

It is as Michaël suggests, but first move your WCS to the datum csys of interest. This can be easily accomplished by right-clicking on the datum csys and choosing "set WCS to datum CSYS". The XC, YC, and ZC values reported by Information -> Point are with respect to the WCS (now the same as the datum csys); the X, Y, Z values are with respect to the absolute CSYS.

RE: Creating Points

The simplest solution is to place the WCS on top of the Datum Csys, then check the coordinates / read the XC,YC,ZC values. ( Which relate to the WCS.)

Tomas

RE: Creating Points

There will be a new Analysis function in NX 9.0 which will 'Measure' the location of a Point relative to either the current WCS, Absolute Zero or a specific Datum CSYS. In the case of Absolute Zero or a specific Datum CSYS, you will have the option to create an 'associative' Measure Feature which can also define separate Expressions for the X, Y and Z coordinates. For now, the best that you can do is using the Information tools to extract the values as a non-associative text listing. Of course, NX Open program could be written that could do this as well and perhaps some have already been developed to just that which someone might be able to provide for you.
