I have a mix design requiring 4 inch max slump. the concrete is to be placed on approximately 4H:1V slope, probably using a pumper. Typically a superplasticizer would be used, which would increase the slump. So how would this be accomplished staying in spec but pumping a stiff mix? Could slump be taken at delivery and then super p added prior to pumping? Or would pumping just be a poor choice for placing the concrete? Crane with bucket is not an option.

RE: concrete on steep slopes

Contractor might be able to get a mix design/plasticizer that will work, but it could be touchey.

If the quantity is fairly low, contractor might be able to use a hi-lift, skid steer, or off-road buggies.

Depending on the purpose, I've seen (but not used) a concrete mat that you add water to. Designed mainly for lineing ditches.

well, the slopes are more like 3:1 and the entire project is basically off-road. quantities aren't huge, but in the neighborhood of 500 - 600 CY. this is all structural concrete. I believe that pumping is probably a preferred method but need to wait and see what the contractor is proposing to do.

RE: concrete on steep slopes

Taking the slump at the truck and then adding Super P does nothing to solve the issue. A 4-inch slump can be pumped with the proper mix design and pump, without adding a plasticizer.
