NX7.5 - Synchronous (FACE MOVE)

NX7.5 - Synchronous (FACE MOVE)

(OP)
Hi,
Please, have a look at the attached NX7.5 file.
I can move the faces located close to the bead.
I tried to apply same procedure to the bead, but it doesn't work.
Why is that?
I do have other option to move the bead (recreate, for instance), but I need to understand the move face’s Do's and Don’ts’s!

Thanks

RE: NX7.5 - Synchronous (FACE MOVE)

OK, sometimes it's better to NOT try and move all the faces. Only select the ones that are really controlling the location of, in this case, the 'bead', and let the software do the hard work.

So for your model, this is the workflow that you need to follow:

First, open the Part Navigator and select the 'Delete Face' feature, press MB3 and select the 'Make Current Feature' option. This will, for all intents and purposes, suppress everything created after this feature but more importantly it will 'move' you back in time to a 'Time Stamp' BEFORE these features were created.

Second, go into 'Move Face', set the 'Motion' to 'Distance' and with the 'Face Rule' set to 'Single Face' select ONLY the two small, narrow planar faces which makes up the SIDES of the bead. Do NOT select any of the blends. Press MB2 (Middle Mouse Button) to move the dialog focus to the 'Specify Vector' item, then select the cylindrical face of the 'tube' to define the direction 'Vector' and now you can either drag or enter the distance value that you wish to move the 'bead'.

Last, now that you have your 'bead' where you want it, go back to the Part Navigator, select the LAST feature on the list, press MB3 and select the 'Make Current Feature' option and you're done.

in the furture is need to you can now adjust the location of the 'bead' by simply editing the new 'Move Face' feature.

OK, the lessen learned here is that with Synchronous Modeling, it's often best to select ONLY those faces which must be moved and let the software do the hard work of moving the adjacent faces which will NEED to update in order to move the faces that YOU selected.

Anyway, give it shot and let us know how it worked.

RE: NX7.5 - Synchronous (FACE MOVE)

I moved the beed by selecting the beed, fillets, and inner and outer tube surfaces that this beed is attached to. See attached image. In the box I used what John mentioned was choose a vector and it moved. The in's and out of why what works and does not work I have not got a good hold of that yet.

Thanks and stars you all for reply.
Thanks Mr. Baker for the theoretical explanation of the synchronous Move Face's use.

I know why I couldn't do this task at the begining.......
Under Move Face Setting, I had "Extend Cap Face" selected (instead of Automatic)................!Could someone explain all these options?

Could someone explain all these options?

I recommend looking in the help file, it contains pictures that help explain the settings.

OK, thanks cowski!

While the 'Move Face' dialog is being displayed, press the 'F1' key and when the 'Move Face' help page comes up select the 'Options' link at top middle of the page and then scroll to the bottom of the new page that comes up for an explanation of what the various 'Settings' will do along with illustrations for each option.

Mr. Baker:
Thanks again for message.
Since last time our company’s IT stuff made some updates on my PC, I lost my connection with Help menu (F1).
I believe that I still have the previous data, but it is not linked to F1.
How could I fix this matter? Is there any way to fix this problem by myself?
Thanks

RE: NX7.5 - Synchronous (FACE MOVE)

Not that I'm aware of. Can you still launch the NX docs from the NX Help menu or do you have to go to the Windows 'Start' menu to do that?

Last option. Windows 'Start'

(I go in C:\ drive and make a search.....)

RE: NX7.5 - Synchronous (FACE MOVE)

Actually, if NX and the NX Documentation was properly installed on your system then you should have direct access to the NX Docs from the Start menu, as shown below:
