I have a square unit cell with a circular fiber, volume fraction = 0.6. So the square is 1x1 and the radius of the fiber is 0.437. The fiber properties are isotropic, E = 72.4 GPa, nu = 0.2. The matrix is isotropic with E = 3.5 GPa, nu = 0.35, and with linear softening behavior which I have defined using plastic strains like below:

The meshing is done using quad elements. The boundary conditions can be seen in the attachment. My intention is to obtain a stress-strain response (sigma 2 vs epsilon 2, 2 is the abaqus X dir). The analysis is failing as soon as one of the matrix elements reaches the Yield Stress = 49 MPa. So basically it is failing to accumulate plastic strains and soften progressively. NLGEOM is turned ON and the increment size is 1e-6. Please suggest any tips or suggestions. Thanks a lot!
