U-Bolt Code Provision for DSA Application (California School)

U-Bolt Code Provision for DSA Application (California School)

(OP)
Hello,
I am working on a DSA project in California, which means lots of critiques on otherwise standard structural engineering design.

The application is a telecom project on a junior college, where many of our pipe components are attached using standard U-bolt connections. The Plan Reviewer is asking for a code section that allows for "If the U-bolt loops around pole via friction and without positive connections, Justify w/ code section allowing friction resistance for this condition."

I can put together a friction analysis, but I was wondering if anyone knew of an AISC provision for U Bolt values, or any other formal code provision that specifically states that U Bolts can be used to resist load; something I can provide so that the plan checker will accept U-bolts as an acceptable connection.

Thanks for any help!
