Aluminium 6063-T6

Aluminium 6063-T6

Hello!

I've been conducting some research with this aluminum alloy but everywhere I look I can't seem to find tensile test data for it. I need the full stress vs. strain chart with the plastic region clearly defined. All of these values have to the the true strain and not the engineering strain is possible. Does anyone have this by any chance? It would save me the time of having to set up my own experiment.

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

A postgrad student looking for help.

RE: Aluminium 6063-T6

If your university library has a copy of "Aluminum Standards and Data" from the Aluminum Association, you can find it there.

RE: Aluminium 6063-T6

Remember, the mechanical properties experience significant degradation when they are welded.

Hello!

@metengr: I actually did find that in my previous searches. It simply isn't good enough because it's not detailed enough. I should have mentioned that what I really need is a data sheet with the values of a valid tensile test.

@swall: I'll look for a copy of that book thank you.

@gtaw: Thanks for the reminder! Not welded though =).

Thanks a lot for the replies!

RE: Aluminium 6063-T6

The Aluminum Association book will give you min yield, min tensile and %E for the 6063-T6. Those will all be engineering stress values, not true stress values. For what you want, I think you are heading in a direction where a tensile test, appropriate to your project is necessary.

RE: Aluminium 6063-T6

You will find the true stress-streain curve you are seeking in Atlas of Stress Strain Curves2nd Ediion by ASM International on page 422 Figure WA 207. A true stress-strain curve is presented for 6063-T6, along with the engineering curve.
