NX8 Drafting - Applying common datum reference to FCF

NX8 Drafting - Applying common datum reference to FCF

NX8 Drafting - Applying common datum reference to FCF

(OP)
Frequently I will be required to revise a drawing where the whole datum scheme has been changed and I now need to used different datum references in my FCF (eg. was A|B|C now A-B|C(M)|D). Is there a way I can select all FCFs and have them "inherit" the datum references of a single FCF that I have on the drawing?

...and a somewhat related question: how do I get NX8 to remember the datums in the FCF dialog I used previously, when a compound datum has been created? It seems the compound datum always gets "dropped" when I go back into the dialog box.

Thanks,
Jeff

RE: NX8 Drafting - Applying common datum reference to FCF

I don't know of a way to change the FCF by inheriting from another, but you could define a part attribute for your primary, secondary, and tertiary datums. Then you would insert the attributes in the annotation editor each time you created a new FCF. If you have to change the scheme later, you just edit the attributes and the FCF's should all update accordingly.

Thanks, but I don't own the part and I don't want to create a copy just to assign part attributes. The drawing is structured as master model based where the drawing is an assembly file that points to the original part file.

If you're creating the FCF's in the Master Model Drawing then THAT'S where you want to create the Part Attributes which would be driving the Datum references.

Oh. I guess I don't understand the concept. I thought a "part attribute" was an attribute assigned in the part file. Can you point me to where the documentation covers the concept you are referring to?

Thanks,
Jeff

EVERY NX file is technically a 'Part' file when it comes to the...

...dialog and what you can discern or edit there, including 'Part Attributes'.
