High Voltage Transformer Rating and capacity?

High Voltage Transformer Rating and capacity?

High Voltage Transformer Rating and capacity?

(OP)
I am designing a project for a sport's field lighting. There is an existing high voltage 4160V/2400V- 208V/120V 50KVA transformer for the existing field and parking lights. After selecting my new field lighting fixtures, the load would be 3 phase, 175A only for the field lights and add about 25A for the parking that is 200A total which is 72KVA. Now the problem is they are trying to use existing service but the EXISTING transformer is only 50KVA, if it is rated for 50KVA is this the max this transformer would deliver? and if it is how much more money approx. would it cost to replace the transformer , bear in mind this is a high voltage transformer?

Thank you

RE: High Voltage Transformer Rating and capacity?

Probably costs less to replace it now than it will either when the inspection red tags the job or you have to replace it after it burns out.

RE: High Voltage Transformer Rating and capacity?

Sure, the transformer will deliver 72KVA, but its lifespan will be reduced significantly. It has to be replaced. There's no way around this. If we were talking about an office building or a similar facility in which your calculated demand load was 72KVA, you would probably be fine. In the case of sports field lighting and parking lot lighting, however, your calculated demand load is pretty close to reality.

thank you for the input

RE: High Voltage Transformer Rating and capacity?

hi
depends on your tr. cooling method. some tr can give load more than 50 percent of full load when use force air or force oil.
