A client of mine has a large tank in which a weld patch was made. During the welding, the thin wall pulled in very irregularly over an area about the size of a double door. I want to model this "dimple" in order to do FEA and I know it is a simple solution for those experienced in surfaces, of which I'm not. I have a series of x,y, and z measurements taken over the effected area which relate to the distance the tank wall "pulled in" from the original outer diameter. What is the best approach to develop the 3D surface model in this case?

Bring in the point Cloud data and connect the dots with a series of lines or splines, then when you have a closed in boundary use either a Fill Surface or a Boundary surface... each types has pros and cons as to why one is better than the other.
