Save-as to new revision w/o closing drawing? NX7.5, TC8

Save-as to new revision w/o closing drawing? NX7.5, TC8

Save-as to new revision w/o closing drawing? NX7.5, TC8

(OP)
I have searched the forum and cannot find a solution to this problem. In NX5 I could load a non-master drawing and make changes to it. Then I could switch to the master model and perform a save-as to the next revision and all was fine (drawing and model revsions are in sync). After moving to NX7.5 and Teamcenter 8, this is no longer possible. When attempting the save-as I get the message:

Incorrect Revision of a Non-master
A different revision of the non-master part files is already
loaded in the current session.
You have two options:
1. press ok to close the non-masters (without saving)
2. press cancel to abort

Both of these options are bad because I lose the work I did on the drawing. I can avoid this situation if I know up-front I will be changing the drawing by loading only the master model and doing the save-as without loading the drawing. Once the save-as completes, I can then open the drawing and proceed with changes.

Is there a customer default setting or something that will correct this problem, or is this work-around the only solution?

RE: Save-as to new revision w/o closing drawing? NX7.5, TC8

As far a I know you can't do that.

All I can say is that I've learned that it's often better to learn to work how the program is intended to be used, rather than trying to make the program work the way you want it to.

Walterke, thanks for the response and I would agree with you. However, it is frustrating when something changes from one software revision to another for no apparent reason. I am suprised that no one else has run into this problem. There are many customer default settings that control the save-as process under Teamcenter Integration in the customer defaults. I was hoping this was a configurable setting and we could make this work as it always had before. I am curious how others are set up with regards to the master model and drawing in Teamcenter. We have:

Item
Item Revision
master model
manifestation (drawing)

Is this an unusual way to structure the data?

Nope that is how we have it. We have trained and trained on this. If you need a new revision do a saveas on the Master model first. But if you find yourself in a revision trouble and you have teamcenter set up to save your last three versions, you can save the drawing which you will now have two drawing data sets. Hopefully at this point you only have saved once. you can then open the master model do a saveas as new revision delete the old drawing dataset and your are saved. Then go back to the earlier revision and open an earlier version of that master model and just save it, then delete the newer drawing you put under that revision.

With all of that being said you should be locking down your item revsions and data sets so once they are released you must do a saveas.
