DIMENSION SURFACE

DIMENSION SURFACE

DIMENSION SURFACE

(OP)
Hi All
Its happened in requently when dimensioning typically product drawing where surfaces are involved where I cannot select an arc in the drawing to dimension, as its a swept loft, surface. etc. Typcally I'll cheat and convert the entity and overlay a sketch arc to be able to dimension it.
Is there another way to dimension untrue arc entities in drawings? Thanks

RE: DIMENSION SURFACE

We usually send those files back to the Industrial Designer and tell him to create a dimensional feature that we can use, instead of these surfaces that do not have arcs or dimensional values... that is really the major down fall of surfacing and if the sketches used to create those surfaces contains splines... then you are just SOL.

I think your solution is about the only one out there if you cannot send the file back to the Designer and tell him to make the file usable and editable. Surfacing is great for those push and pull Enigineers, but sucks when you want to make a drawing of the product. Which is why we try to stay away from Surfacing alltogether! Since the Industrial Designers are tried of getting hammered when we throw something back over the wall to them, they are starting to steer clear of surfacing when and where they can.

RE: DIMENSION SURFACE

Create geometry in a sketch which intersects or is tangent to the point at which a dimension needs to be placed. Place a sketch point at that location and then dimension to that in the drawing.
