Design of Winch Foundations/Supports

Design of Winch Foundations/Supports

I am designing a skidway track to pull an equipment using an Air winch of 25 Te SWL. Can the community members suggest/recommend a reference that provides guidelines for the design of Winch support? The winch is supported on one end of the skidway track. Approximate length of travel is 75 m and the maximum slope of the skid way track is 10 Degrees.

RE: Design of Winch Foundations/Supports

I would just design using the AISC specification using an impact factor for the winch load. 25% seems like a reasonable impact factor. See one of the older AISC manuals or IBC-2009 section 1607.12.2.

RE: Design of Winch Foundations/Supports

See if there's a published stall load for the winch.

RE: Design of Winch Foundations/Supports

The stall load can be 2.5 x the static load,

Also depends on the use. Some mines, for example, have a SF of 5-10 depending on the location. The last winch anchorage had a SF = 12.5.

Thanks Gents. Please bear with me for a delayed reply.

The winch is used on an offshore vessel on a couple of times (Not for frequent use). There is no stall load published for the winch. I will work through some of the references you have mentioned in your replies.

Best Regards,
