Additional Nozzle on a registered pressure vessel

Additional Nozzle on a registered pressure vessel

Additional Nozzle on a registered pressure vessel

Hi,

Our client needs to add an additional fitting on this pressure vessel which is designed & manufactured to Australia Pressure Vessel Standards / codes and also registered to the relevant statutory authority in Australia.

This additional fitting is same size fitting and will be added in a same location where there is an existing fitting. But in a different orientation.

I am not 100% sure that this alteration to the tank is considered as a minor or major alteration with respect to AS 3920.1, I would like to know whether this alteration is considered as minor or major alteration to AS3920.1 and what should be the process in order to meet the code compliance.

Tank design details,
Design Code:AS1210-1997
Welding class: 2B

If you have any questions or require more info, please contact me.

Thank you,
Chandanraj

RE: Additional Nozzle on a registered pressure vessel

It is a minor alteration of a pressure vessel per AS 3920 Clause 2.4.2 definition. However, you still have to perform calculations, but no third party design verification/inspection is required. Also, for an operating vessel you need to refer to AS 3788, Section 6 and subsequent sections referenced in Section 6.

Hi Mate,

Thanks for your reply above. Much appreciated. This is a repeat job and we are fabricating these new vessels.

Thanks you,
