Hi there,
I read thru a few manufacturers' procedures explaining how to install an expansion plug, but none of them specifies the required pressure (or force) to press it in. Does anyone have that information? Thanks.

Pipe expansion plugs usually slide in with little effort and are then tightened to cause expansion and sealing.
Freeze plugs can be pressed or driven into place without great difficulty. Pressing will require perhaps 75 to 100 lbf depending on the size of the plug or can be hammered in with a wooden dowel and 2 lb sledge hammer. Dowel should be slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the plug.

This is a concave expansion plug. I understand that we can use a pressure press or even a hammer with a right tool to install it inside a counter bore. A question of pressure (load) requirement raised by a MFG guy for them to buy a right press machine (pessure/load range) for this job. In theory, do we have a rough fomula (eqn) to estimate this load? Thanks.
