Non Associative view in drafting
Non Associative view in drafting
(OP)
Hello community,
I need assistance on the following difficulties I am experiencing with NX8.
1. I am trying to create a non-associative view. One that is not linked to the 3d model.
2. I am trying to duplicate the curves in a non-associative manner of an existing view. That is create a second view as the original stays associative and the duplication is non associative.
How do I do that?
Greetings,
Tish

RE: Non Associative view in drafting
The only approach that I can think of would be to first place an actual view of what you're attempting to create as non-associative on your Drawing. Zoom in on this so that the view is the only thing that you can see. Now go to...
File -> Export -> CGM...
...and change the 'Source' to 'Current View', set the 'Destination' and hit OK. Now while in the same drawing, do an...
File -> Import -> CGM...
...and select the .cgm file that you just created. This will create a new Drawing sheet with the now non-associative curves on the face of this sheet. Now select the curves, press MB3 and select 'Copy'. Go to the Part Navigator and double-click on the original Drawing sheet. Now select the Drawing itself, press MB3 and select the 'Add Drawing View...' option which will add an 'empty' view to your Drawing. Now select this new 'empty' view, press MB3, select the 'Paste' option and when the 'Paste' dialog comes up, set the Motion to 'None' and hit OK. The non-associative curves will now be in this view which you can drag to anywhere on the Drawing that you wish. Any changes to the Assembly/Parts will NOT be reflected in this view since all it now contains are COPIES of the 'curves' as seen in that original Drawing view.

Thank you for the feedback. If you come up with more ways of "killing" the view I would be happy to hear it.

If you have Windows 7 the Snipping Tool works nicely.
RE: Non Associative view in drafting
If i remember things correctly it was done by faceting the model.
- still there or should be considered retired ?
Another intriguing option which i have been wondering about is in the Customer Defaults - Drafting - View - General - Extracted edges ; there is an option "Non- Associative" !?
- Which i never has either had do any difference nor seen any differences using.
