Strengthen shear capacity of an existing reinforced concrete shear wall

Strengthen shear capacity of an existing reinforced concrete shear wall

(OP)
Dear all,
I need to seismic rehabilitation for an existing reinforced concrete shear wall in the matter of shear capacity. Could you please suggest a a solution for that? Adding more shear wall is not possible in my case, so should I use steel sheet, fibre reinforced polymer...or ??
I am new in this issue, so could you please suggest me a textbook (paper...) that I can find some useful information?
Thank you
Lisu

RE: Strengthen shear capacity of an existing reinforced concrete shear wall

I like the idea of a steel truss each side of the wall. The chords could be single angles and the web members plates. Chords of opposite trusses could be laced together across the ends of the wall.

Could you please say in detail? one photo or figure to illustrate could be great. Thanks

RE: Strengthen shear capacity of an existing reinforced concrete shear wall

What is the length, height and thickness of the shear wall? What shear capacity do you need? What shear capacity do you have? What moment capacity do you need? What moment capacity do you have?

I don't have a photo to show you.

RE: Strengthen shear capacity of an existing reinforced concrete shear wall

We have strengthened several concrete walls for in-plane shear using FRP. With FRP you shall need to consider fire protection options.

You also need to consider access (2 sided or single sided application), development of the FRP at wall element ends, magnitude of the proposed shear capacity increase etc

Some brief application info here: http://fyfeco.com/applications/by-type-of-element/...
