Concrete Piers on Rocky Soil

Concrete Piers on Rocky Soil

Concrete Piers on Rocky Soil

(OP)
Hi all:

I am designing a foundation for a steel frame single family residence in south central Texas.(loads are light). I The site is very rocky and many of the proposed concrete pier locations have rock. I was wondering what has been your exposure to a situation like this where removing rock and excavating would make it very hard and expensive to accomplish. To me, I am just thinking on dowelling onto the rock my concrete piers. We are not proposing foundation walls and footings, just isolated reinforced piers (8) for a 80'x30' structure.

Thanks in advance for your feedback

RE: Concrete Piers on Rocky Soil

so are some on rock and the others on clay? are you going to excavate to solid rock for the rest of the piers?

RE: Concrete Piers on Rocky Soil

I have gotten the geotech to give values for sitting the foundations directly on rock (limestone in my case). But you don't want to be sitting half on rock and half off, or have a void under the rock. Ask your geotech about options.
