Ground Support Standards

Ground Support Standards

(OP)
I'm looking for an industry standard type of reference, from a government agency or professional organization (not necessarily US based), that provides ground support standards for underground metal mining. I know that support varies by ground conditions and the requirements of the excavation, but I'm in need of a quasi-legal reference, basically something more than an anecdote, to cross check ground support used for a particular project. I vaguely recall a Canadian organization that published a reference along these lines, but can't remember the name of the group.

Thanks!

RE: Ground Support Standards

Good luck with that!!. I don't think I've ever seen quasi legal specs for ground support. This isn't really surprising when you consider the number of variables........ almost an infinite number of geological conditions, a very wide range of inherent stress conditions due to depth and other considerations, the degree of moisture present, a wide range of expected life expectations for the support system ( typically two to one hundred years) etc etc. However perhaps your best reference would the work done by Rimas Packalnis at University of British Columbia who has done a lot of empirical work at sites across the world, which might give you the cross checks you are looking for.
