Which NACE course?

Which NACE course?

Which NACE course?

(OP)
Im a chemical engineer, and i want to brush up (and improve) on my corrosion knowledge.

Im looking for a mid level course with some theory and a focus on design (material selection) and mitigation/management

So, i was thinking that the NACE "Corrosion Control In The Refining Industry" sounded OK (im in upstream/offshore) but that "designing for corrosion control" might also be it. The schedule for the first ties well into some other travel plans that i have. I live in Europe, but i have to go to Houston in first week of november and the refinery course runs last week of october.

So would any of you have participated in the refinery course and could tell me if its something entirely different to what i need? Due to the time difference its a bit difficult to call NACE and talk with them directly.

I do process engineering and flow assurance, its a small company so i have to cover some ground (including an understanding of corrosionand material selection)

RE: Which NACE course?

I wouldn't recommend that course given your current industry sector. Refinery materials and corrosion are completely different animals to offshore production, and you would be lucky to get about 10% of the content being pertinent. Of course, I say this only from looking at the content, and not from attending the course.

Something like this would be more appropriate if you can find it:

Thanks Steve, i was more or less coming to the sam econclusion.

Best regards,

RE: Which NACE course?

I have taken design for corrosion control and found that course to basically be useless. You won't really get anything as far as materials for corrosion control in oil/gas, just some very basic info. If you want an entry level course it might be okay, but I think you would be dissapointed if you took it.

Have you also taken the "designing for corrosion CONTROL" course? I took the "basic corrosion" a while back and found that to be a good introduction course

@Morten - if you want to connect on LinkedIn, you can download a set of Materials Selection & Corrosion Control slides from my profile.
