Seismic Analysis of valve with actuator

Seismic Analysis of valve with actuator

Seismic Analysis of valve with actuator

(OP)
Dear All,

Can any one share report / procedure to carry out sesimic analysis of valve + actuator assembly using ANSYS or any other FEA tool or hand calculations? Step by step procedure will be highly helpful.
I have response spectrum data of site available with me.

Thanks.

RE: Seismic Analysis of valve with actuator

I've never seen or heard of this analysis being done or indeed any failures of actuators during an earthquake and the silence on your question may tell you something as well. Who / why is asking for this?

My motto: Learn something new every day

Also: There's usually a good reason why everyone does it that way

RE: Seismic Analysis of valve with actuator

I have heard (long time ago) sentrifugal separators for marine ships (NATO) required shock tested to qualify for bomb and mine shockwaves by beeing hoisted up 8-10 meters and dropped with free fall onto a concrete floor. Qualification requirement was troublefree start and operation afterwards. Information came directly from suppliers technical manager.

At least a method [smile]! No further comments!

Dear Littleinch,
Such type of requirement is very common in Nuclear industry but now people are asking for normal piping specifications also e.g. emergency shut down valves. The purpose of analysis is to check strength of yoke, bolting and shaft bending in case of seismic event due to heavy weight of actuator acting as 'mass' at the end of cantilever beam.

Well after googling and with ANSYS help I managed to carry out spectrum analysis, full transient analysis as well as mode superposition transient analysis also with my model. This is all in ANSYS workbench.

Thanks !!!

Thank you! I was enlightened!
