Select only skinned surfaces (outer surfaces) of a complex geometry

(OP)
In UG NX, Is it possible to select only the outer surfaces in a complex geometry like cylinder block. I need only the skinned data excluding the inner thickness, oil passage paths etc etc.
I am using UG NX 7.5

RE: Select only skinned surfaces (outer surfaces) of a complex geometry

Yes you can. You will utilize Select By Region.
I am not at my place of work right now, but when I get there tomorrow I will try to explain more . . . hopefully somebody else will help you before that if you need it.

RE: Select only skinned surfaces (outer surfaces) of a complex geometry

I am not aware that you can select only outer surfaces like the described.
The workaround is to use an Assembly feature, Linked Exterior, and then export the results from that.
The linked exterior will by different methods select the exterior surfaces and link these into the work part. The linked bodies can then be exported.

Tomas
