BackGouge Weld

BackGouge Weld

BackGouge Weld

(OP)
Hello,

Can someone tell me when we should use back gouge weld. Is backgouge CJP weld??. I was thinking the Backgouge to be used when we are butt welding the plates & the thickness is greater than 0.25 inches..
Please clarify..

Also, how we design the welds for connecting plates. I mean to ask if I have a plate structure(instead of beams & columns). To be more specific, if i have frame structure (beams & columns) then one can easily calculate the reactions(shear, tension, moment) & design the weld for these forces..

What about a structure with plates(finite element structure)

Thanks
