Using a DC Charger Model to model PV module current contribution
(OP)
I am currently working on a DC Arc Flash study in E-TAP and do no have the PV module library avaliable to model the DC current contribution from the PV modules. I was planning on representing the PV module short circuit contribution by modeling a DC charger connected to an infinite AC source, and set the chargers DC short circuit current to a fixed value representing the maximum short circuit of the PV modules. The charger model would account for the number of PV strings entering a combiner box so therefore the chargers fixed output current would be dependent on the number of PV strings.
I wanted to hear others thoughs on using a DC charger to model this PV module short circuit contribution. I fell as if this is an accurate modeling technique as long a we are setting a fixed ouput current for the DC charger. Is there another model that may be more accurate such as modeling a battery etc...?
The question that comes to mind when modeling a fixed DC fault current source such as a charger is what role the DC cable impedance plays on the fault current. From what I can tell the DC cable impedance would pretty much be neglidgable since the DC charger is going to output a fixed DC fault current regardless of the DC system impedance. Is this potentially an issue, or should the system impedance somehow be taken into account.
Thanks for the help.
