I have just calculated axial friction factor of a pipeline laid on a soft clay based on three parameters; breakout friction, residual friction and remolded friction...Residual friction gave me lowest value while breakout gave me the highest value (Ref OTC 19589 PSI during lateral Buckling and walking-SAFEBUCK JIP).

However, is it ok or too less conservative to use the BREAK-OUT AXIAL FRICTION FACTOR as my axial friction coefficient during thermal expansion analysis? And also, whats the differences between these three parameters?
