API 620 - R1 and R2 for a dome roof/bottom

API 620 - R1 and R2 for a dome roof/bottom

(OP)
Hi guys,

Me and my workmates are new to tank design and we find the description of R1 and R2 extremely confusing. The mention that R1 can be negative when is on the opposite side of R2 increases our confusion.

We are basically having a hard to understanding where R1 and R2 are with respect to the level of consideration. We noticed there's an equation for R1 and R2 in terms of a,b and x but we are also confused on how we related to level of consideration.

If anyone could lead me to picture/or some explantion clearly showing what is meant by R1 and R2 with respect to fluid level we would greatly appreciate it.

We are trying to design a vertical cylindrical tank with dome top and bottom and when filled is 200mm below the top juncture with the sidewall and top dome.

regards,
Pato
