Wrapping solid to the surface
Wrapping solid to the surface
(OP)
Greetings all!
The task is to wrap the solid body to the reference surface. Shape of the wrapped solid should be correct, e.g. all perimeters of the edges must not change. What is the correct tool for the task?
I attached a part file to this message.

RE: Wrapping solid to the surface
My interest is the workflow behind. It is because it must not to be done in Nx like in your other cat system.
I have seen this mess with diamler they not really turn the cat system they turn Nx to V5.

Menu Insert -> asotiative copy -> extract geometry
in the dialog extract geometry type choose -> Face
face option -> body face ... select body...
detailed enough?

one way is to project the boundary curves on the other geometry

But what if the surface has the shape like in the file attached to this post?
I came up with some solution, but I'd love to see what you can do in this case. It will likely be a better way.

Note that with the next version of NX (the one after NX 8.5) we've made a couple of enhancements which will allow you to create this model with 1 Sketch, 1 Surface and 1 Wrap operation. Basically you would have created a single-faced Ruled-Surface using the new 'Developable' option and then created a single Sketch tangent to the face of the surface and then create a single wrapped-curve feature as you will now be able to Wrap onto a 'Developable' surface as well as a Cone and Cylinder (after all, that's one of the characteristics of being 'developable').

Exciting news about additions to the NX! Wrapping of thin parts is a department where NX is currently not very robust. Improvements there are very welcome. Can't wait!
